How much does a Washington State DUI attorney Cost?
Our office represents people charged with DUI throughout King County, including Kirkland, Bellevue, Seattle, Redmond, Bothell and Issquah. Questions I hear a lot are “How much does a DUI attorney cost.”? And more specifically, “How much do you cost?” I understand that it’s an unlucky and scary time. You are probably getting random and creepy mail from attorneys or possibly even phone calls stating they are the best attorney for you. It is like the hungry attorneys smell blood in the water and are circling you. It is always advisable to take your time and meet with a few attorneys and hire the one that is the best fit for you.
DUI charges are unlike any other Washington Criminal charges. From the onset there are two different cases to deal with. First, there is the Department of Licensing(DOL) hearing and second there is the criminal proceedings. So, already it must be understood that a King County DUI is going to be much more time consuming than a typical King County Criminal Charge.
Next, there is the fact that many Washington DUIs have many court hearings. There is mandatory arraignments, often multiple pre-trials, evidentiary motion hearings, trial calls, and trial. A typical DUI can easily take up to a year to reach a resolution.
Also, you must consider your Washington DUI attorney’s specific training. DUIs are different than many other King County Criminal cases because DUIs usually have professional witness. Police officers and troopers are trained in Washington DUI detection and in testifying in court. When practicing DUI law in Washington State it is important for the attorney to receive the same training as the officers. Here are some of the DUI specific training I have been involved in, in the last few years.
- Qualified and trained to administer the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), – samet training as the police
- I have been qualified to instruct and train others in the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), same training as police, but fewer police have this training
- I was a participant in the NHTSA Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement course (ARIDE), same class advance DUI detection police take.
- I have been certified in the Forensic Sobriety Assessment
- Graduate from the National College for DUI Defense Summer Session at Harvard University
- Attend several other National College for DUI defense seminars and local seminars
Also, I have taught and trained other lawyers in the NHTSA Standardized field sobriety test and have been published in Inside the Minds – Dui Discovery, Aspatore Books (2012).
As you can see it is very expensive and time consuming to stay up on the constantly changing Washington DUI laws and defense strategies. I have several more trial trainings and legal achievements not mentioned above. However, the most important thing in my office is client satisfaction. No, attorney can promise a specific result on a Washington DUI case, but what can be promised is; individual attention. Client individual attention is one of the elements my office provides itself on and is imperative toward our continued success.
So, how much does a Washington DUI attorney cost? It is hard to answer that question without meeting with you and assessing the case. I can only answer by saying that, I am not the most expensive, but I am also not the least expensive attorney. I offer reasonable rates and payments plans. Honestly, I don’t take every case that comes to me; I strongly believe that attorney client relationship is important to obtain the best results. I am not afraid to turn down a case if the fit is not right. However, I offer a free consultation to whoever desires. I understand that being charged with Washington DUI is unexpected and no one financially plans for it and if you are reading this the possible attorney expense in worrying you. Don’t’ hesitate to call my office or contact me online to schedule a free consultation.
